Asia's real estate sector has experienced phenomenal growth over the past few years. The growth is most notable in the areas of REITs. Compared to US and Europe, the number of REITs in Asia is multiplying rapidly with about 17 REITs launches today compared to just 2 in 2002.

However, experts believed that REITs are just the beginning of things to come as there is still a knowledge gap between the real estate sector consisting of developers, asset owners and real estate practitioners and the structured finance universe backed by the top tier investment banks.

Where the real estate sector are content about REITs, the investment banking universe are already leveraging on more complex deal structures such as real estate CDOs, funds of funds, repacks, hedging techniques, capital protection structures to name a few.
